Simon, Apart from the word LONDON I can't make out what was showing at the Ritz. If you or anyone else can, since the ABC only showed first run films, you should be able to date this photo from the film's release date.
If the film showing at the ABC is "The Amazing Mr Blunden" and assuming it was newly released then the year would be no earlier than December 1972.
the building on the left is woollworths side door as ime sure you all know.
i know derek but i wonder if anyone can date it off the COMBINED WAREHOUSES on the right?
My grandad, Bob Adamson used to work at the Ritz as a 'Crowd Controller'you'd say.He wouldn't stand any nonsense especially from the Minors on a Saturday morning.
I can tell roughley where I was sitting, but not who I was with, or what I was going to see. What I do remember is the first newsrell film of the British entry to Belsen.
I was in the Ritz cinema with my mother, & dad. It flashed on the sceen that the Italians had surrendered. There was one great thunderous cheer.
Albert, Italians surrendered, did they ever start? if you want an unused WW2 gun, go to Italy there,s plenty for sale there.
I was fortunate enough to get on of the cinema seats and an old ABC sign (now framed on my landing) when the cinema was demolished. One of the saddest days of my life, but at least I still have the memories.
