Not sure about Cross St, but I seem to remember driving in both directions ( legally ) in the early 80's up and down Church St. Both cars on the right seem to be facing the main road, towards where Ash and Nephew off license once was. ( now Standish Domestics )
Great pictures by the way Keith
whilst delivering papers early one morning in this street think it 1963 it was lashing it down thunderin a ball of fire went down and i belive it did george or jem Glovers barn. animals were top of charts with THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN if i remember rightly.
Considering what rubbish they were at the time, BMC/British Leyland products seemed to be very popular in Standish. Two 1100s, (One, the Riley version) one Maxi or 1800 and one Morris minor in this photo. At least the truck on the High St seems to be a Bedford.
Doesn't time fly!! I was way out with my estimate for the date of the conversion of Church St/Cross St to one-way. The official details are: experimental conversion August '93, made permanent February '95.
alan lad,the Animals entered the charts in June 1964 with H of the RS and it stayed for 12 weeks.
Thanks Roy
