Founded in 1604 originally for boys of the area. Later it became a junior school for boys up to 11+ but was closed in 1964 and demolished 4 years later. Four classrooms surrounded a main hall(which latterly had a stage suitable for dramatic productions) with several annexes outside. The site is now occupied by Greenacre Care Centre.
Does anyone have a better photo of this iconic and historic building??

I attended there for a couple of years 1948 and 1949 before i was moved on. I think most C of E lads from Standish went there and some RCs that i can think of, probably not wanting to walk the extra half mile or so to St Maries.

i went to standish grammer and remember mr carrington i saw him couple of weeks ago (he must be 80+) he looked great. We reminised for a while and he insits he remembered me.
i failed my 11 plus and went to shevington secondary modern school ( we were the first intakes at this new school i think 1959/60)

Mr Carrington also taught me at Shevington.
The other teachers i can remember at Standish are Mrs Goodwin, Mr Snape , and the headmaster William Garner ( no relation)

When I was there Olwen Wilding taught junior 1, Mr. Lewis taught junior 2, Mrs. Turner taught junior 4. I seem to recall 1 or 2 senior classes in the Conservative club at the end of Green Lane. 2 classes were held in the hall with a dividing screen between next to the headmaster's desk.

I've just uploaded a better view although the building looks quite derelict.
