I can honestly say I wish it still looked like that. There is a sign at the bottom of the wiend, on Market Place, proclaiming to visitors to Wigan: "Wiend...Historic Shopping Street", and when you go up it all you see is that awful glass box of a library and the 'orrible 'ead!
Had any a good 'crop' from Mr Lyon the barber.
Oh, if only wishes could turn back time..every photo evokes lovely memories.
The Ladbrokes shop was originally opened by Joe Kennedy.Harry Jones gents shop you could order made to measure shirts (how posh was that),
The barbers I think was Russ Lyons, higher up,out of shot was the famous
Tickles craft Shop.
Whalley's pet shop used to be up here and there was often a parrot outside in a cage.
I remember Tickles Up 'Weind. What did they sell, & where was it?
Maggie Tickles was a haberdashery..it was like walking into Aladdins cave..and that barbers shop was the first shop in Wigan to hang a photo of Marilyn Monroe in the nude..you couldn't walk up there then for the amount of lads peering in the window...the little devils.
