this shows the rowing pond and the bridge by the side of the canal with the hall in the background
What's noticeable in these two pics is the extent to which the basin is filled with weed - which is absent from the modern-day pic on Photo-a-Day.
What is the date of the book, aitch? The arch of the bridge is well clear of the water in this view.

i have the same image, but in black and white on a valentines postcard posted in 1901. so a date of 1898 to 1900 i would guess.
I have a water colour of The Boat House by J Aspinall Croston. With fencing to the left and right of the bridge. Painted sometime in the 1800's?
