Considering there is a good discussion going, on photo a day, I thought I'd put this one up.
It shows the boathouse on the Basin Quay at the top of Hall Lane.
The Rowing Club was established in 1872 and it's first President was the Earl Balcarres.
In later years, from 1921, an annual event called The McClure Challenge Cup was contested by the Rowing Club members.

Excellent pic, been pass this area many times and never knew that used to be there.
Fantastic. Have searched everywhere for a photo of the boathouse. Brings back memories when me and my brother were walking by aged 7 and 9, 60yrs ago when asked would we like to steer the boats on one of there training runs up the canal as they were short on rowers that day. soon got used to it after a while, but what a brilliant day out that was. Never forget it.
