Not 1940s, TV arials and double yellow lines at the side of the pavement and traffic lights can be seen, it's about 1960 ish. Taken from upstairs of the White House pub. Similar to the photos I put on WW some weeks ago.
Brilliant photo John.
I used to love those cottages, and my friend Christine and I used to go into those two phone-boxes.....Christine in
one and me in the other....and phone each other!
why on earth was it demolished,to be replaced with kentucky etc ?
Progress....lol.Smithy Green was local landmark, what they did to it was a sin.
Double yellow lines came into being with the Road Traffic Act of 1960
How pretty it looks...and as everyone says what idiots decided that a couple of shops would look better...but again it's all about money isn't it? not peoples lives..as I have said in an earlier photo of Ince Bar,a friend and work colleague lived I think was the middle one of the white cottages-houses,I visited one day and thought they were lovely..there are a lot of idiots in town planning departments.
i knew a couple that lived in the cottage on the corner where they turn on left, i was in billinge same time as her in 1971 think she had a girl i had my son alan i cant think of theire name ont tip of mi tongue will post later when ive thought .
