Although I don't recall trolley-buses, I remember the buildings here when we first moved to Platt Bridge in 1971 when our house in Ince came under Compulsory Purchase, and I recall walking down the old tramlines with my dear Dad.
Harold Browns garage in the background. I used to work in the TV shop opposite from tram.
I think everyone in Platt Bridge got their TVs and Hi-Fis from Bell Radio. :-)
I remember Trolley Buses Irene cos me mam worked in Atherton and we sometimes had to go to her works... A normal bus to Hindley Bird, then catch a trolley bus coming up Liverpool road to Atherton then same trip in reverse to come back.. I must only have been about Four years old then
Me and mi mate set off from near the Rex,to walk to Atherton,we got to around Long Lane and gave up,we went all the way looking up at the Trolley wires,in case we got lost,we would have been about 8 year old,by the way the Leigh to Bolton trolley buses were a lot nicer buses.
Trolley buses bring back memories of visiting Huddersfield to meet a girl penfriend. They were still running there in the 1960s.
Great pic. aitch you can just see platt bridge legion next to harold browns garage which in turn was next to harry taylors woodyard,I used to go there for bungles of firewood wrapped in wire when I was a kid.
browns garage! used to gell my cars mot done there, allways went under the car with him to have a look see, brake test was done on the dirt road outside get up to speed and pull handbrake on, two equal skid marks thats a pass, faults wrote on a piece of toilet paper,
Where is this? If it is Platt Bridge, the only place I think fits is at the end of Templeton Rd at the junction with Warrington Road and Lily lane. The trolleys turned off Liverpool Road on to Lomax (opposite the King Billy) and ran along Templeton to Lily Lane. There is now a car park and other things in the way, but it was a through road until at least the 60's.
