It certainly is Templeton Road in Platt Bridge, I have walked up that view many a time. We always called the lane 'Tramlines'. You can even see the old picture theater at the top of Lily Lane.... magic!

What a brilliant photograph! Thankyou for posting it.

so many memories just from that one photo. I too used to walk along that way, no reason, just an amble. The cinema was the Miners' Hall.

A smashing picture this.. but it looks like the trolley bus is going down the backs rather than on a road.. is it going to the terminus (sheds)?

St.Helens is the likely destination, no 1 service.Depot was either Capps St.,Liverpool Rd.,or Howe Bridge Atherton.

this was the main trolley route then only disused when they were discontinued, i lived in bamfurlong andthe numer of times the trolleys came of the wire on the corner of Bolton Road/ Lily Lane were too numerous to mention. I was amazed at the long pole needed to hook them back on. Happy memories

Brilliant picture aitch. I used to live at 25 Warrington rd. This pic shows the rear of this house, and the rest of the terrace. Sure brings back memories. Thanks a lot for this.

aitch, thanks for the reply to my comments against another posted photo. Although it was a long time ago this certainly looks like the spot, though in my memory it seemed a much shorter length of road. I lived in Beech Hill at the time but travelled to work in Warrington on the LUT 60 bus route which of course stayed on the main road.

Sorry JB, but the photos were scanned out of a book I had, I have more but not of the centre of Platt Bridge, and I am not sure of the date, if enough interest is shown I will put some more on, as I think interest in the photos could stimulate interest in the book, so that should be good for the publisher.

I remember being carried out of the Miners, stiff with terror, at a showing of Disney's Snow White.I was fine until the witch arrived in the story then I howled the place down. Obscurely it all seemed to be my fault! Nowadays I probably would have been offered counselling as opposed to the ear bashing I got from my mum for "showing her up!"I think I was about 5 or 6 at the time and convinced me that Walt Disney really did not like children!

if this picture was taken today what buildings if any would be there and where abouts on templeton road is it i was born in platt bridge in 1977 so when i was growing up in the 80s the only buildings i can rememder are a row of houses then next to them youthclub got built which is now the council office then next to that is the small sewer works then in the 80s abit across was trees and behind the trees was the old fairground what now is iceland, as a kid growing up in platt bridge in the 80s if someone would of said a mcdons the traffic lights next to the billy would no longer be there, a iceland and all the other changes i would of said never it shocks me how much as changed i just wish i had a camera and took pics of everything that as gone

Hi SN, Yes the row of houses were on Warrington Rd, and was called Rose Tarrace. They have all gone and a car-wash built there, and now a cafe is there. The road is Templeton road and there is still a row of houses there. The British Legion used to be on Templeton Rd up on the left of the picture.

Wasn't there a Plumbers / Joiners business there named Geary ? They moved to Moss Lane later on.

Having been brought up in Platt Bridge I remember this area very well the Miners Hall was often referred to as Sniggies much to the owners disgust.
