NO IDEA WHEN THE CHURCH WAS BUILT,OR WHEN IT WAS DEMOLISHED,BUT IT WAS THERE IN 1954 BECAUSE THE MEADOWS BOYS FUNERAL SERVICE WAS HELD THERE. ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BRICK GATE PILLERS IS STILL THERE TO THIS DAY, PERHAPS SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS SOME IMFORMATION ON THE CHURCH,

I well remember the church when I was younger. It was quite a distinctive building of red brick. We would pass it on our way to play on the big fields where the estate is now.The Wesleyan cricket ground was also to the rear of the Church. I dont know when the church was demolished John but it was a pity it had to go!

What a brilliant photograph... I remember it very well, it was on my way home from school.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A BIT OF CONFUSION BETWEEN THIS CHURCH AND THE CHURCH WHICH STOOD ON THE CORNER OF VICTORIA ST ON WALTHEW LANE,THE CHURCH ON VICTORIA ST WAS THE METHODIST, NOT THE WESTLYAN AS STATED ON THE CAPTION

I don't know this particular church, but Wesleyan and Methodist are the same. I went to the Methodist Primary School on Dicconson Street which was also known as the Wessleyan School, Wesleyan was the earlier name given to Methodist churches.

In the 1800s and early 1900s there were four branches of Methodism. The Wesleyan branch was the original and the Primitive Methodists, United Methodists and Independent Methodists had all split away. They were all reunited in 1933 as the Methodist Church of today. After the amalgamation some of the chapels may have closed as the congregations joined together.
