This is lovely, Colin! How many times I walked through that covered walkway and down the steps to the station with my Mam and Dad on sunny Saturday mornings to go to Southport. I think the little girl at the far left of the front row is Lynne Hoctor. I feel I should recognise more people, but I don't as yet; I will have to scrutinise it closer, but oh, how lovely to see Ince Station in the 60s! Thankyou.
I think the little girl second left, (next to Lynne), might be Margaret Johnson whose Grandad lived in our terraced row, behind St. Williams' Presbytery wall. I hope someone else can put names to faces.
What a lovely era the 60s was, they are all really genuinely happy. This would have been a great holiday for all, the steam train ride and Southport. Many thanks.
Going to the open-air baths no doubt.
Great time to grow up.
you could be right about it being Lynn Hoctor irene
it certainly has a look about her
obviously one of the many club trips from there
we used to go with lower ince labour club
happy days
We went to Southport with Lower Ince Labour Club by train from Ince station for years, when we arrived in Southport everyone made their way to the big restaurant for our meal.
In later years we started going to Southport by bus, but it wasn't the same as the train. The train was the start of our days holiday. Do club still have trips to Southport?
Front row 6th from left is my blond curly haired "baby brother" John Collier.
What a fantastic picture. Great stuff Colin. This is what I love about Wiganworld.
In the early 80s, I drove a coach for Walls, from Ince labour club to Blackpool for the kiddies outing, I was the 9th coach of 11, just shows how many kids went then, !!
Recognise two boys central at the front next to the girls as William Cowburn and Kevin Malone
many young children seen with the tickets on their coats in case they get lost in southport.
I can see mrs bibby and mrs sinkler on right from battersby st
I have just had confirmation that the lad next to Willy Cowburn and Kev Malone is Billy Green.
This would have been an Ince Legion outing.
I think you're right too, Stey. It is me and I'm pretty sure that's me mam , Norah, in the headscarf two or three faces to the right of the WAY OUT sign. I'd hazard a guess it was 1963. We all got five or six bob apiece spenders from the Legion. My mate Ste Whittle used yo gloat that the Labour Club used to pay Seven and a tanner.
Hey up stey & billy
I would never have tought them 2 were Willie & Kev,until gt,pointed it out,and I zoomed in,and certainly would not have known you billy
That also looks like Christine Pete , standing just above Willie Cowburn , with a couple of her sisters in clos proximity.
