The 1901 census shows my great grandmother and 4 children living at number 7. Thanks to Ron Hunt for posting the photograph. Which street now occupies the location?
None
If it was there now it would be parralel to Greenough St from Sullivans way to Schofield lane
Ron if you go through the arch at the top there would it bring you out facing Scoldfield lane,if so are the shops on the right gand side of the arch be roughly the chemists.
You are spot on Kath
Waw Ron, that takes me back some, I,m fillin up here.
thanks for sharin, keep them comin. 'Without history we are nothing'
Kath and Jean Bond used to live at top, like me and our kid, twins and in the same class at St Georges, their dads name was Henry,i think and was very protective
On the other side of the arch from the chemists was a cloggers. It was run by a bad tempered old b****** who was never behind the counter in the shop when you went in (nor was there ever another customer in the shop, come to think of it) As a lad sent to collect my clogs on my way home from St Georges school I can still vividly remember being terrified at the sound of the owners footsteps clomping up from the cellar and his head appearing from a cellar door set in the floor. In my young and over vivid imagination I always associated this shop and the cellar door with Sweeney Todd. Another comment refers to the Bond family who had twin girls. I think their father was my father's brother. My father was born in Crawford Terrace and had four brothers and five sisters. Due to a family feud between my father and two of his brothers dating back to before my birth, I sadly never knew these two uncles or any of their families
Do you know if the cloggers name was James Ashton?
In reply to Jean J, I am almost certain that the cloggers name was not James Ashton. Somewhere in my mind I seem to recall his surname was Bolton.
Correct Derek, the cloggers name was Bolton
The cloggers name was Blinkhorn - I used to take my dad's clogs there and he always said be sure to take them to Binkhorns and not Polly Do Outs in Hardybutts! I think he was a bit predjudiced!!!!***

I have just found the picture and comments of Crawford terrace where I grew up with my brother Terry and am remembering those who lived there in particularly it was lovely to read information about the Bond family and my last meeting many years ago with Lillian whom I recall very well and Jean / Kath and would love to hear from them. We lived at number 4 mum and dad were Mary and Teddy Brady (sadly now deceased, my dad was one of the last Far East Prisoners of war to die in Wigan in 2000) Mrs Leach lived next door other side of the entry. and I have some pictures of us in Crawford Terrace. I remember the cloggers well, baby sat for the barber and worked at Melias Scholes after school with Mrs Hill, I went to St Patrick's then St John Fisher Girls RC School Baytree Road.
