The Crispin Arms, Birkett Bank.
This shows some of the Sunday afternoon regulars, circa 1954. The pub was situated close to the Ince boundary and on Sunday afternoons the Wigan drinking hours were half an hour longer than those across the border in Ince. As a result every Sunday lunchtime, at about 2pm, a "cavalry" charge from the pubs in Ince took place, as this fine band of men headed for the Crispin Arms, just over the border, for their extra half hour of sustenance. (that's me in the window). Birkett Street is on the right.
