Lovely to see the old Post Office again. I remember going to collect my child allowance as a new Mum; my "baby" will be 34 in two weeks! Everyone used to go in Neil's queue as he was so helpful and had a little chat with everyone.
i had forgot the post office used to be there,i also got my child allowance from there irene.untill we moved to spring view.
I remember Mr & Mrs Valentine used to run the Post Office. Kevin I think was their eldest son who took over when they retired. Claire was their daughter and there was a younger son. I could be wrong but their youngest son was Neil, he may have been the one who is mentioned in the other comments.
Yes, Neil was Mr. and Mrs. Valentine's son, and Claire was also behind the Post Office counter, but I didn't know there was another son. They had to amend their queueing system so that you had to go to the next available cashier, otherwise everyone went to Neil.
My mother was driven to using this office for a while in the early 50's after an unfortunate incident when the postmistress of our regular one was on the bus with myself and mum and I said in my foghorn whisper as she got off at the stop before us,"Oh, I am glad that lady is going, she did smell! Needless to say I got a right royal telling off then and each time we had to walk to the postoffice, passing our usual one en route!
hi im kevin valentine my mum and dad use to run the post office before my younger brother neil took over and my sister claire helped out now again
