This is the view of Florrie Street with its cobbled street and uneven flagged pavement. On the corner at the end of the row of houses is the Outdoor Licence. The Empress Mill chimney dominates the skyline.

My grandad{Jeffery Calderbank} was born in Florence st in 1896 nice to see this pic went to have a look but they had already been demolished.

Wasn't this Florence St? leading to Kirkless St (see street maps of Scholes) behind St Catharine's Church? Florrie St ran from Scholefield Lane to Linney St parallel to Isabella St and Elizabeth St.

johnalan it was florence st at bottom of hill on left was a off licence we called it hydes a favourite of my grandads when he minded us. we lived at 55 leader st on left of picture but further up on corner.

across the street from off licence used to be a corner shop it went after the owner passed away 1955 that was in Kirkless street.We lived at no 25 Kirkless street until 1961.Also Gullicks not sure of spelling they made mining equipment Pit Props etc.There use to be a bowling green behind the offices.
