I wonder what has happened to the space they left when demolished ?

Helen. the pub on the far left, red brick with a green door was the Platt Bridge Inn, and the pub to the far right with the red sign on the wall was...still is...The Queens. I worked at them both. The road veering to the left now runs straight through where the shops were, and there is a little roudabout. The Platt Bridge Inn, derelict for many years, has now been demolished and a Tesco Express, a betting shop and a bakery are currently being built on the site.

Thanks for posting this - I'm a Platt Bridger of only the last 20 years - brings back good memories.

I have seen it Irene. :-)

Marilyn, I used to be an order boy for Dolly Winstanley. I would cart orders out on Saturday morning to houses up and down Platt Bridge.

The first shop in the row facing the tree boarded up and painted green was if my memory serves me right the old William Deacoons Bank. I was only very young but I do recall this is what this was, I lived in Walthew Lane, opposite the Post Office.

I remember Webster's Butchers and they also had a Butchers van that they did home deliveries after the shop closed in the evenings. What great service.... it's sad its all gone.

Hi Geoff, yes I do remember all of the shops across from the Inn which you mention. John Bolan was my uncle and he died last year in his nineties. I remember the Bolans were quite friendly with your mum and dad. I mentioned you and these Platt Bridge pictures yesterday when I was visiting Geoff Jones and his wife Pat, do you remember Jones' cake shop at Abram?
