That's the bus stop at the front of what was Jim Isherwood's house opposite the infirmary, are you a relative of Jim by any chance Marguerite or is your surname just a coincidence.

Yes my husband was Jim's nephew, I was going through some of his old photos of Wigan and thought they would be great for this site.

I trained at the Infirmary during 1960's and must have spent hours waiting for buses at that bus stop, we used to see Isherwood going in and out of his house and wondered what it must be like inside with all his pictures, paints etc.

MARGUERITE ISHERWOOD Hope you've got some of Jim Isherwood's paintings, they're worth quite a lot now I believe.

Hello Margeurite,my mam used to have a chat with Lawrence his brother when he had the shoe shop in Wallgate, she was mad about shoes,so we very often popped in there.

Jim Isherwood , Never had any money ? Thats a laugh , he lived in a nice house up Wigan Lane , Its just that he did not like spending , He used to stay at the Scarisbrick Hotel Southport and paid in pictures for his B and B , he walked round Wigan town with a black coat round his shoulders wearing a large hat , maybe he was eccentric - who knows .
