Whereabouts on Castle Hill was this. There used to be a Sanatorium on Sandy Lane, Hindley.
You are correct, it was (and still is) on Sandy Lane, the buildings are now private houses after comversion.
yes it was on sandy lane, and is still their although it is was converted to 3 bungalows, in the 50s i think by the council. my uncle thomas banks lived in one until his dealth in the 70s. the building is on the right directly beforethe st opening. sandy park.
a friend of mine lived here for around 10 yrs in the early 90s and dug some wonderful bottles up from her garden....complete with specimens, etc ..a bit macabre
It is in Sandy Lane. I lived there at no 185 from the age of 12 until I was 21. My father died whilst we lived there. Tommy Banks followed us into the property and is was council owned. Whilst it was a hospital the matron was matron Farnam. Her daughter was junior head at st. Benedicts school when it was in Market St.
I live here now, does anyone know anymore information about this house from what it was like when it was a sanatorium?
It was a lovelly place to live. There used to be to the left of 181 some out buildings. We called the wash houses but believe that they were the mortuaries. Wish I could return and live at 185 again.
I am currently living at this house, if anyone has any information or knows where I can find it please let me know. We have experienced paranormal activities and witnessed sightings of the past life.
I'm interested to know about the farm opposite the old sanitorium on sandy lane. I'm wondering, now it is in the process of being demolished, when it was actually built?
Rose, I used to be friends with the 2 girls who lived at Sandy Lane farm, they were Jean and Tina Southern. I believe Jean still lived there up until the recent sale. Tina died in her thirties.
I'm sure this is the house on Sandy Lane
tell us more samantha, what sort of activity are we talking etc..
Very interesting
Jean Southern was my mother, and my grandfather James Southern built the farmhouse during the Second World War after moving it from approx 100 yards from the road, I lived there after my grandad died for about 20 years. And yes my mum and dad lived there until it was demolished.
I wal,ed every day to the bus stop with your mum Jean Southern. A lovely person.
