I'm trying to get my bearings on this photo - is the railway crossing where the bridge now is? or was there another railway line across Manchester Road?
KenB the railway crossing is Where Dobson Park House is now situated trains came from Springs Branch to Central Wagon Works for repair, and the railway line ran along the edge of the terraced houses still standing and where Dobson Park House is. Last time I went to Ince Central School it was behind some sleepers running along the playground. I was born 3 blocks of houses away and lived there till 1970 at 275 Manchester road. Walls coaches booking office was at 279 next door but one
Wagon works offices on the left before the crossing , the crown was run by Joseph Millar in those days he also had a coal delivery round at some time. He had three sons ,ken ,Ray, and Joseph (sonny) Millar .I remember the crossing gates closing sometimes on my way to Ince central school, imagine the chaos today if those gates stopped the traffic.! I think the railway line crossed bell green lane to the right . Old maps will show the lines route . Nice photo (classic) happy days.
Does anyone know anything about a John & Freda Morris who lived at 186 Manchester Road around 1931? Freda had surname Eastham before she married John Hough Morris . They were in their 30's in 1930 so it may be their children - if they had any - that people remember .
i was told that my grandad william lowe lived in little darlington st, he had 2 sisters, sarah and annie, annie married a oneil, not sure if it is the one mentioned on the other comments it was john oneil, grandad met my grandma peggy roberts from westhoughton, not sure if they ever lived there when they got married.
