I say this 80/90's photo is Standish Church but I'm not sure, can anyone verify it ?
We have other pics of the church, I have no idea why because my Grandfather Bryson went to the Congregational Church in Wigan, my Granny prefering the Presbyterians.... I was brought in a mixture of faiths as my Father's side of the family were all Chapel folk !

St Wilfrid's Standish has a spire. The side-by-side tower and spire seen here are the distinctive feature of Ormskirk Parish Church....

Thank you both for letting me know about the church photo. I would never have known that in a million years & yet I went to school in Ormskirk for about 3 yrs. Now I wonder what was special about Ormskirk Church.....& why the steeple added on to the tower, was it that 2 sisters benefactors of the church couldn't agree? Something of that sort seems to come into my mind.

Hi Helen.
The tower was a later addition.
I understand it was built after the Dissolution of The Monasteries, with the stones from Burscough Priory, to house the bells from that establishment.
