Great pic' Tom. I remember the tunnel well.
My wife and I had an accident with a 35 ton lorry under that bridge about 12 years ago. It was dangerous at that time but it is a lot better now
In the 1950's Liptrots coaches used to pull in down the side street where the LUT bus is, it took us off to exotic places like Rhyl, Blackpool, Southport and sometimes a "Mystery Tour". A man called Frank Mcquillan lived in the house where the bus is, he used to teach shorthand.
great pic - though the lad is surely in his 40's - he must be at least six years younger than me!!! :)
I am almost positive that the lad on the "chopper" is myself. The date would put me at 14yrs 8mth. I would probably have been on my way to my girlfriends who was later to become my wife, we still live in Platt Bridge.

G'Day Wayne. Couldn't recognise your Dad but
John Winstanley looks vaguely familiar, mind you a
recollectionfrom 57 years ago plays a few tricks.
