My grandma and grandpa lived at 29 Upper Morris Street. In the 1950's my dad was transferred back to Europe so we lived with them for a while. Mom was a war bride. Attended St George's school for a while as well. Wish I could find more pictures. Live in Canada now so not so easy to find things. Thanks for this posting . Brings back good memories

Steve - Charlie and Eva were my grandparents. I remember them living there in a top floor maisonett. They were there until around 1980 I think.

It's so great someone posted this picture. My great great great grandparents (John & Margaret Jolley) lived at 40 Upper Morris Street in 1861. Now I can see what the buildings looked like -- thanks. From the comments, I guess #40 is on the right further up the hill (?)

My Halliwell ancestors also lived in Wigan, some in Upper Morris St (no 21) others in Wigan Lane, Dean St, Scarisbrick St, Hardybutts. Great grandad William had a shop in Chancery St. Lovely to see these photos.

Hello Denise Halliwell. I just saw your post of June 19, 2021. My name is Debbie Dubé and I live in Canada. My mom was born Eva Halliwell in 1914 and her mom was Mary Halliwell, who was the youngest of 6 children. The family lived at 21 Upper Morris St. Wigan and also #’s 18 and 19 a until at least 1950 and possibly longer. I think we must be related somehow. If you’d like to explore this further please feel free to email me at deborahjdube@gmail.com. Thanks. Debbie

my grandad, Joseph Shepherd was living here in 1911, with his brother & extended family. In total there were 13 of them at number 9. Is number 9 near the bottom end of this photo?

My grandmother Mary Makin, maiden name Halliwell, lived at 18 Upper Morris St. in 1950 and beyond. I'm trying to determine where she went from there when the houses were torn down and new buildings and business constructed. I'm also having trouble finding her death record. Can anyone provide me with some direction? I will be visiting Wigan for 3 days in September, 2023 and will be trying to make these connections. Thanks very much. Debbie

Hello Winnie - thank you for this information. I’m sorry I’m just seeing it now. We did come to Wigan in September 2023 and the Museum of Wigan Life was very helpful
In filling in some gaps. Were you related to these Halliwell’s? Or did you live on Upper Morris St.? Eva Halliwell named in the 1921 census, age 7, was my Mom. If you would like to connect, please email me. Thanks. Debbie
