Thank You Wigan Council for demolishing it. We rally needed a new shopping mall.
To some extent I agree with your sentiments Ron. However, not wishing to appear too pedantic, the year was 1964. I remember the night well it was like bedlam in there but it was a great night. I've still got my ticket!
I fully agree. The council and the planners have allowed the heart of wigan to be torn out and replaced by a shiny new glass and stainless steel monument to comecialism. Wigan has no concert venue, no professional theatre venue, no art gallery and now no swimming pool, but HEY we can go shopping
I totally agree that the character and heart has gone from Wigan Town Centre. The planners have got it wrong. In addition to the 2 previous comments, why build a new Court next to the police station and then move the police station to the other side of town.
I too was lucky enough to see the Beatles in concert at the Ritz. All you could hear were females screaming. What a night. I threw my ticket away but a company called Tracks in Chorley pay a small fortune for them.
I was at that concert what a night fab fab fab did nothing only scream could not hear what they were playing My sister was working has an usherette and even she was screaming and made the evening post saying even the usherette was overcome by the Beatles
Ive still got my programme,,,was on row d as a matter of interest,,when The Beatles came on ,,got absolutley pelted with jelly babies that wher throw at the stage from further back,,,,John Lennon said he liked jelly babies at one time when they 1st got famous,,,
The Beatles. Overrated bunch of rubbish to me. People are obsessed with them.
I attended the concert as a St John Ambulance volunteer it was a fantastic night we were there for both shows and afterwards went to meet the Beatles in the changing rooms and got their autographs, that has stayed with me all these years and will never forget it.
What year was this?
