Hi Tracey, great picture!
My Dads mum is on the picture and his two sisters. My Dad was about 14 back then and he says he was probably out at work. Is it possible to get a copy of this picture?
Hi there, my nan is on this photo Mary Hughes (Molly Holroyd), with her sister Peggy, and brother Thomas, their mother Mary is stood at the door way watching on the far right.
Nan would of been pleased she made the internet, thank you for this lovely picture x
good pic tracey we lived at numer 6 i was born there good times hope you got more many thanks
What better example of Wigan's greatest resource, its people. Great photo.
The Baby in the High Chair is our cousin Dorothy Jarvis.
The lady second from the left with the dark dress and glasses is my Auntie Polly Byrne and owned the temperance bar on the corner of Albert Street/Manchester Rd.
My grandparents William and Harriet Barrow lived at numer 1. My Dad Joe Barrow, their youngest would have been 8 when this was taken.
Hello Malvene (Traynor)I hope you don't think I am 'nit picking' but No2 was on the corner of Albert St. The end wall of the house (complete with parlour window)faced on to Manchester Road. Mrs. Byrne's shop was next door to this and so it was the first shop ROUND ths corner on Manchester Road.
I was talking to my Aunt Nancy Jarvis (nee Hewitt) who's family lived at No 2 Albert Street for many years and she told me that when sweets were scarce and 'on ration' Mrs. Byrne would keep most of her stock 'under the counter' away from the prying eyes of adults. In doing this she made sure that local children 'didn't go without' and had a good, regular supply on treats/

Hi Gale, Hi Malvene and Hi Stuart,
I'm also from the Barrow family, my mum was Harriet, the eldest and your dad was the youngest. Uncle Jack was the middle one, married to Dorothy Fairchild who lived a bit further up Man Rd. opp. Albert St. They bought Polly's shop from her and I helped in the shop every night until I left Rose Bridge Sec. School, I absolutely loved it and wanted a shop of my own but took another path. No. 2 Albert St. was on the corner and the door to it was in the narrow entry before you reached the corner. By the way, I hardly ever got called by my real surname, I was mostly known as Mary Barrow by the older people!!
