Wow! Fantastic photo, Aubrey; I have looked up where it stood. What years would it have been when it was Scilla's chippy, please?
It does remind me a bit of Isaac’s chippy that was on Vauxhall Rd.
.( now converted back to a house) it looks so homely with the lace curtain on the door and no garish adverts all over the window. So many chippies in those days with living quarters behind the shop. It does take you back. Good photo and nice to see it.
Irene, They were there from.the late 1930s to 1961. The latter 5 years, or so, it was a "lock up shop" when they moved house to Neville Street.
Thankyou Aubrey, I didn't know Platt Bridge in the early sixties as we lived in Ince.....the furthest I got was Spring View where I had relatives and where my brother's future wife lived, (they got married in 1961). Not many people had cars then so it was a case of going to Wigan on the bus and that was it! A couple from Abram took over the corner shop near us in Ince when I was a young girl and we had no idea where it was!
