I have coloured this b/w photo that was posted a while ago. It shows a lovely family group in Lime Street. The colouring I think works well because of the even exposure. My mother’s great, great grandfather and family lived at 15 Lime Street in 1881.

That is a lovely photo and the ladies look so natural and attractive. The colouring is enhancing in its subtlety.

That’s how I remember Scholes. How neat and clean outside the house looks with sparkling windows and scrubbed step. Not to mention the people how smart they are and proud of the contented “babby”.

Oops, although I’ve been involved in family history research for many years my description of family relationships still needs improvement. Henry Brown (1849-1933) was my gt, gt grandfather and my mothers gt grandfather, he lived in Lime Street with his family.

What attractive ladies, and that’s without false this and false that, and those windows are spotlessly clean..the majority of lasses today look like they’ve even pumped up with gas and air..and spend a small fortune to look like that.

It looks like the group are celebrating the arrival of the 4th generation

I don't know who they are but the two ladies on either end could easily pass as twins or sisters?
Natural beauty at its best.

Yes,a lovely photo of natural, attractive ladies with the baby.Notice no weeds or rubbish left on the ground, and glistening cleaned windows and mopped fronts. How times have changed, but not always for better.x

I wonder if they owned their own home. The brickwork is pointed and the cement has been put in between the bricks and flags so no weeds would come up. Most people rented the terraced houses but some did buy them. I-don't suppose they got the true value of the buildings when they were knocked down sadly. Our old neighbours owned their house and bought another one off Darlington St I wonder if it’s still there to this day.
I don’t think there was a damp proof course in the house we lived in.

What I do remember is when my dad would put new oilcloth down in the kitchen you could see the stone flags underneath. Some folk pay thousands these days to lay stone flags in their large farmhouse type kitchens! We already had them in our poky kitchens….what I would give to afford a lovely polished stone floor in my kitchen!
