I took the Wallgate pictures in October 1979. The colourised version is brilliant. A view of Wallgate, Wigan, looking towards the railway bridge with all the old shops ready for demolition in October 1979.

Wallgate 1979, a Ford Capri police car, and a Japanese saloon possibly Toyota Corolla. I remember when the bridge advertised Magees Ales for many years.

Whenever I see the old buildings I often, (well ALWAYS). Wonder what "stuf" was in the attics and cellars Probably loads of documents and photographs etc. relating to Wigan's past. Now lost for ever..
Way back probably 40 years ago? There was an article in the local Evening Post or Observer about someone who had a shop in Hallgate. found a pile of old documents in the attic I think they were 1600's? I cant recollect what happened to them?? Probably now in the Archives.
