Came across this photo in the family album's (Father's). No info written on the back but it looks like the photo was taken from another bus as that looks like the rear platform pole for passengers to hold onto. My guess looks like early 1950's. In the background seems to be the main post office on Wallgate. Someone may identify the policeman attending.

I'd agree with early 1950s, Barrie.
The 'dog collar' tunics were phased put all around that time in Wigan Borough, and replaced with the 'V'neck tunics with lapels.
THe officer bears some resemblance to Ken Bridge, PC 125, who joined the force 1949/1950. I remember him telling me when he first joined, he was issued with this type of tunic.

The PC looks as if it could be my late father, Thomas (always known as tommy) Bond. Joined as a a War Reserve and stayed on after WW2 ended.

This picture is definitely early 1950s. This particular Corporation bus, a
Leyland PD1 and the rest of its batch were from 1947. Cheers, Ray.

Peter, I sent the photo to the Russell Company. Got a reply thanking me and saying that they will add it to their archive images. Thanks Barrie for posting it
