I once fell off a 40 foot ladder, similar to this one
40' equates to '7 Bobbies' Mick - what's in a number, eh?
Still a Wigan Borough Policeman in 1968. Wigan coat of arms lapel badges.
Now it all makes sense Mick.
At first glance I thought the photo was before 1968 because of the contraption holding the ladders. The street looks a lot more well preserved than the seedy place it is now.
Albert. Do you know the PC ? He looks very familiar and I'm sure he must have been a regular around the town centre.
Carolaen. Martin, or Aubrey will probably know him. His features are quite distinct. I left in 1964, and prior to that, I was a couple of years at Pemberton.
I was OK because I was only on the bottom step when I slipped
But are you ok Mick, sometimes I wonder.........
Carolaen. I contacted Aubrey, but he cannot recognise him. I should have put Mick, not Martin.
Albert - I think the PC may be John Fisher - I don't know if he would have joined before you left Wigan for Kent.
Thank you Mick LD. I never knew him.
Is that some body watching threw the Windows up stairs
To change the subject. James Lowe's son Michael was at SHE in the 1960s. Good Bloke! Hope he's still around.
It looks like 3 ladies looking out of the window 'tootin' at what's going on Tom.
Damn predictive text. WGS not SHE !!!!!
Veronica, Regarding the " Contraption ", The extending ladders were
attached to the wheels, so that the fire crew could quickly get their tall
ladders up back entries and other places where the fire engine couldnt
get to. Nowadays, the modern hydraulic platforms fitted with a water
supply can access up and over buildings. Cheers, Ray.
That was my Dad's shop. I used to love watching the photos being developed in the darkroom.
I bought my first super 8 cine camera from here in 1965, staff always helpful and gave good advice. Previously I think this had been a shop selling wallpaper and paint.
