This was in 1950. My parents had taken over the pub in January of that year. Little did I realise, until 70 years later, that the Ordnance Survey would then record the result for posterity also in 1950, by producing the second half of the photo which shows the self same steps after my mother had finished them, using the donkey stone.
What a great photo from your childhood Keith..I hope you have it framed and hanging on your living room wall..it's worth it.
Your Mam definitely put her heart and soul into that step Keith! I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of the photo...
Just around the corner and out of sight, for the right-hand photo, say, Keith. And Two very good photos, together rather special.
Thank you Maureen. Great idea, a framed print to let my 3 grandchildren know about past customs.
Thank you Veronica and Phillip G. If you'd like to see the rest of the left hand photo Veronica go to "Places" then "Crispin Arms" where the full photo is posted. Don't have the rest of the other one.
Yes the photo on the left is a memorable one and very clear. Wonder what it is that is so interesting in your hands! The other little lad looks interested as well....a toy car?
Well Veronica, to the best of my knowledge (it was 70 years ago), I think I was holding the brown case cover for the box brownie that my father was using to take this photo. We always waited with anticipation for Gratispool to post the results back to us from Glasgow.
Gratispool ! Now there's a name I had forgotten, I was always disappointed because there was three or four photos didn't turn out...;0))
I'd forgotten Gratispool too, Veronica! Brilliant photo.
