Would think this is about early 1971 as the shops at the top of Market Street have been demolished, I remember the shops in the old arcade were closing around Nov/Dec 1970.

I would say that this picture was taken in 1972, because construction of the Wigan Centre (now Marketgate) was well underway and Market Street had been made one way, when construction of the Wigan Centre started, Market Street was still open to two way traffic.

1972 -73. Th new precint opened in 1974. One way traffic so it was easier to gain access to the building site
