Wigan’s Market Square showing celebrations of Edward VII's coronation in 1902.
I took this panoramic shot from film archive which I recorded a few years ago from the BBC2 programme.

Oops - sorry I should have said Market Place.

Four of the Laddies with head scarves look like the same woman as me. Does anyone else see the similarities?

Maggie K you're quite right, Wiganers, especially the women, are fast movers but the buildings stayed put! The clue is that it was a film.

Amazing. How many frames went into this still?

Full credit Keith, you have made an interesting photo there.

Thanks Robin and Mick, there are 4 separate stills in the panorama.

This clue to which eludes me Keith. Could it be a closely related family home movie.[ The Smiths perhaps?].

Thank you Aubrey. Sorry Gary I may have missed your point entirely. All I can say is that these films by Mitchell and Kenyon were designed to make money - they visited Wigan on numerous occasions and wherever there was a throng of people they took their shots. They usually organised the people in some way, handed out leaflets telling everyone to turn up at their local cinema to watch themselves on screen. A business venture which happily has left us with a 100+ year old visual record of Wigan past. We must remember just how new this was in those days.
