Fanny and Harry Lea outside their paper shop on the corner of Wallgate and Tickle Street, in about 1950.

I love pics of old shops and always wish I could go inside. Are those "Christmas Stockings" hanging in the window.....the ones you can buy, usually made of net, containing chocolate and sweets? I believe Sweet rationing was still in force until 1954, but they certainly resemble Christmas Stockings.

Lucky you, Gary. We lived at 146in a shop called Ascot Fashions and my grandparents had a grocery shop at 150 (Alice Aspey Seal and James Seal) and I would love to have a photo of their shops.

Hi Vera,

Do you know my Dad Brian Lea? He is still here with me.

I can't help you regarding other photos you mention.

I have one that shows the old wood work and sweet jars inside my gran's shop and I also have a colour photo of when Wigan won some kind of cup back in the 50's I think of them on the bus.

The shop today would be where the bus stop is now. In fact, it is directly inline with the wigan pier rails (bending upwards) showing on the canal towpath. Ernie Wilkes garage was opposite the shop too, and my dad worked there as a mechanic.

Going past on the bus, I always had a smile when I saw the sign 'F.LEA' above the window.
