A bit of a different scene, since I took out newspapers, for Tatum's, in the 1940s. Walmesley Arms seems to be still flourishing.

I love these old pics showing the shops that were still thriving then. Albert, do you recall a lady called Clara who used to play the piano in The Walmesley Arms?

No Irene. When I receached the age for drinking, I had moved to Lower Ince. Frequented the Little Rock, and the White Swan, but did most of my socialising in the Wigan area. Pear Tree, Frog Lane, and The Commercial, town centre. From ninteen,to twenty four, I was in the R.A.F.

Thanks, Albert. I am from Higher Ince but my brother married a lady from Spring View and I had relatives there, (Griffiths family from Taylor's Lane and Gittoes family from Hope Street). I also had an Auntie and Uncle, (Alice and George Parkinson) in Lower Ince, (Frederick Street, moving to Cheltenham Avenue when Frederick Street was demolished).

Irene. I lived in Winchester Grove, round the corner from Cheltenham Avenue. Frederick Street was still in exsistence, when I lived there.
