The houses (which are still standing) at one time belonged to the Forshaw family and many relations lived in the houses at one time or another. The photo was taken looking at the Whelley end Kitty Doran lived in the house facing Newman St with St Stephens Junior School to the right. The White Lion and Railway pub stands on the corner with Whelley. In shot are May Forshaw, Maureen Forshaw, Pauline Stokes and Lilly Morris (nee Forshaw).

We lived at no 2 in the early 60's and were the first to have a bathroom installed. Mr Forshaw came to look and he decided to put bathrooms in the ones he owned.

The hose you can just see on the left, 133 Whelley was my birthplace, and home my grandparents, Agnes and Jack Saxon.
