Another photo of my husbands garndad Edwin(Eddie) Moss after a days golfing. The car is a Triumph Stag and the photo was taken in approx 1963. The photo is at the top of Platt Lane

The car is a MG Midget mk2, launched between 1964-1966, and the reg is C 1965...so the photo's in or after 1965. Lovely photo Caroline.

I had a similar car, Reg. RTG 597G, but mine was a red AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE. It was the same car as the MG Midget, but with different badges. However mine had wire wheels, which took ages to clean, but looked fantastic.

the car is a 1963 mgb roadster not a mg midget you can tell if you look at the front wing also it was a mgb because the b in the mg name denotes the b series engine which was in this case a 1800cc engine with twin su carbs. the mg midget was 1275cc earlier models of mg eg the mga or the mgc denoted the engines which were in them a series or c series with the c series being a 6 cyl the car in the picture was made in the old mg factory in abingdon oxford before britsih leyland took over the firm. you maybe able to find more details about this mg on the mg register caroline it may have also had the old 3 speed gearbox hope this info helps you as ive a mgb gt 1971 and served my time on cars

How can the car be a 1963 when it's C reg???? I think you will find its a 1965 migit.

The car is a an MGB roadster and was registered in 1965 which means it has the later 5 bearing engine. Earlier MGBs had 3 bearing engines, not 3 speed gearboxes as suggested above. However, it will have a gearbox with synchromesh on the top 3 gears only, which may explain the confusion. Later cars had synchromesh on all four gears, and from the beginning (1962), some cars had overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears, like the 1970 one I currently drive.

car pictured is not a midget as on rear midget had squared
of wheel arches up till 1972

Definitely, a 1965 registered MG Midget. I had an identical model. Great fun!

laurie i agree with you, tommy i think you are mistaken but from this angle it is easy to see why, also fuel filler on mgb models is closer to the bumper over-rider

Hi Laurie & Anteater...You're both right...it is an MGB. I reckon I need new glasses!

It is most certainly an MGB. This model was altered in detail numerous times throughout it's long production run (1962 to 1981). One detail about the car above is that it has one wide reversing light, and I think somebody has added this. The lights on my car (which correctly has one on each side)are square, and all the pictures I can find show these square lights. There is a wonderful book called the MGB Restorer's Guide, by one Anders Ditlev Clausager (Yes, really!) which is full of marvellous pictures showing many of these changes. This book has a picture of a 1964 car which has no reversing lights at all. I was going to say one could write a book about this...........but good old Anders has done it! Another book, The MG File by Eric Dymock has a picture of a C-Reg MGB with no reversing lights.

The picture above does oddly look a bit like a Midget, but I'm absolutely sure it isn't. It's a bit difficult to find views of the rear of cars in order to compare and contrast. And just because the car is a C-Reg, that doesn't mean the photo was taken in 1965, of course.

I could go on..........you'll all have to gang up and stop me.

As one who owns a 1978 MGB Roadster that I still drive I can definately report that the car is certainly NOT an MG Midget but a 1965 MGB Roadster its too long to be a Midget and the back end on a roadster is very different. The model remained basically the same apart from when the huge plastic bumpers where added in 1975 up until production ended in 1980.
