where was water street??
Water Street is still there - it's the street onto which the front door of St George's Church opens out, off Powell Street/ Northway, running parallel with Standishgate to the north and River Way to the south. It has been extended westwards to meet Crompton Street beside the Spiritualist Church.
I don,t think its water street where St George,s church is.Has far as I know there was never a police station and never so many houses in a row.Went to St.George,s as a young girl.
The car in view, which I think is an Austin A40, is post-war, so the pic is late 40s at the earliest, and probably mid-50s by the clothing of the girl. It looks like a local Police Station, rather than a central one.
Not a pic of Water St where 'St.Georges'was, there was no police station but there was a slaughterhouse. Lived in Marsh Lane around 1950
No this is not water st....i was born there and lived there till I was 4year old....my dad jack Taylor worked at the skin yard. There was just a small row of terraced houses and a pub on the corner that my auntie Mary and uncle frank lived in....my mum was France's Taylor
This is not Water St Wigan. I was born and brought up in Water St and there was never a police station in the street
This is Water Street, Atherton.
I lived opposite this police station in 50s and 60s but it wasn't used in those days.
