Frank Grimshaw took this photo in 1957 that's when the shaft sinking started.Sadly Frank passed away quite a few years ago but he was the NCB photographer at the time.

A fantastic set of pics so far. There are some old B&W on Youtube that explain exactly how the shaft was sunk and the procedures involved.
