A lot different to the last time i saw it, we were still sinking it. I worked for Kinnear Moodie at the time
P Dooley had a go at me for putting my feet on his squeezers because they had just been painted,do you put yer feet on yer Mothers side board he said, get um off mi squeezers, what a character he was.
When we were breaking through from No 2 shaft ( we constructed the run round to link both shafts,)The muck was transported via a little train pulled by an eimco620. We had cut into both sides and poured the side walls, and we were extracting the middle lump known as the "dumpling".We had about a yard left and the roof caved in. As luck would have it the gang had just got down from the space over the cambered girders while I fired a big piece of stone. I didn't have time to turn the key before all the pit bottom caved in, tearing all the joints on the cambered girders for about 10 yards back. There was a hole over the girders about 10 ft high. This had to be filled with concrete and all the girders had to go up pit and be welded.
Hi Graham, Can you tell me the name of the 3 person in the photo. I can see yourself and Ernie. I don’t remember it being that clean looking at the pit bottom.
