This was the face that I saw developed before I left Parkside for the first time in 1963. It was developed using a duckbill loader. I never saw it in production.
I worked on B1 from the start,it did ok until hitting a big step, but it lasted a lot longer than the 2nd face C1 which only went a short way before coming across water, which soon finished it off, wettest face I have ever seen.
Fred, are you positive about the Duckbill on B1,it was used on one development, but I have F6 in mind because the Duckbill will only work well going up an incline, and I seem to remember the road to B1 being level, but its a long time since,I think it was the men from Dairy pit who worked B1.
The duckbill was used to develop the faceline itself. I was shotfiring for the gang who did it.I can't recall who were working it, but Tommy Foster and George Clemson's names spring to mind.
Ok Fred,I forgot about the face itself, just thinking of the roadway,I don't remember the names at all.I don't know when you started Fred but at the beginning electric was not allowed and all the machines were compressed air.
HIS YOU ARE RIGHT FRED ITCAME DOWN FROM NUMBER 1HORIZON TO NUMBER 2HORIZON I REMEMBER RONNIE PYE WAS THE UNDER MANAGER
Hi Kenny,do you remember me?I remember Ronnie,Frank Reid,John Connaughton,I started in "64.
