I remember it well, there was a bank of trannies which were the most soporific in the pit. I spent many a happy hour there as an apprentice working with Ronnie Tuffnell the most uncommunicative person at Parkside
SOPORIFIC!!!! THEY DIDNT TEACH WORDS LIKE THAT AT St HELENS TECH. SPENT MANY HOURS RUBBING THE BRASS BATTERY SOCKETS WITH EMERY CLOTH TILL THEY SHONE THEN BE ALLOWED TO SHUNT THE LOCOS AROUND, BETTR AT No2 GARAGE COZ NOBODY EVER CAME THERE AND THE OLD GUY USED TO SHOW ENDLESS PICTURES OF HIS DAUGHTER AND HE WOULD SEND YOU UP THE PIT TO GET TEA AND PIES!!
well its been a long time ive seen the loco shed
the electrian was ronnie tufnell
i worked with ronnie up until he retirered that was the day he was 65 and he was very reluctant to go up the pit before the end of the shift, he loved is golf and played at haydock golf club
Worked at Parkside after Mosley Common closed in 1967.Left for S.Africa in 1977.Was the electrician in No.2 loco garage for my last couple of years.Yes Ronnie was a pretty dour character. These photos bring back good memories, nice to hear some of the old names.
Allan Radford was electrician when i drove locos,it was a good place to have a warm in winter
Good memories Terry, thanks for giving me a lift changing the batteries.
