This was the last horizon tunnel to be driven at Parkside. There were 3 Irish gangs driving it, The chargehands were Barney Quinn, Eddie Boyle and Paddy Quigley. It was driven on 16x17x12 arches with oak lagging boards in the web of the arch. The tunnel teams averaged 40 yds/week and at that time in 1961 they averaged £40/week in wages, which wasn't bad considering that deputies pay at the time was £23/week!!
