The lady in the middle is Lavinia Highton (my Auntie Vinnie) who also worked in the Rendezvous (if anyone remembers it).

Great pic. Where was this cafe please? I seem to remember one on Greenough St which may have looked like this. It's hard to remember.

The cafe on Greenough St. was Lewis's ice cream parlour. They also had one in King St opposite the Court Cinema and one in Wallgate opposite the Post Office now a Charity Shop.

Was the Wishbone in Hope St, near the Ribble bus depot?

Yes it was near the Ribble Bus Station and you could go upstairs to eat.

There was a cake shop underneath the cafe where I used to work on a Saturday morning. I used to go upstairs, taking a pie from the shop, for my dinner and the ladies in the cafe used to give me some chips.

My mother was the Mrs Brown mentioned. She was Eva Brown, head waitress at the Roy Cafe/Wishbone. Allan Brown's Latics would often visit in the mid 1960s. Lily Stapleton, often referred to as "Lily Hotplate", worked in the kitchen.

The wishbone, King Hal's kitchen and the Stardust Room were all owned by Noble & Ault together with a few butcher's shops knocking around the Wigan and St Helens districts.

Had many a coffee and discussion with my buddies from the Grammar school in the Wishbone cafe.
