It's what's in the picture, not what the picture was taken for, that often matters. The subject of the photo is Cliff and Dorothy Harrson, who lived in flat 7 on Cemetery Road, Lower Ince. He worked at Moss Pit, and was a Councillor for Ince Urband District Council. She was the daughter of John Gaskell, Shed Master at Springs Branch in the 1940s. Behind them can be seen 'The Barracks' on Morris Street, where crews from long-distance trains stopped overnight when their working hours expired, or when they had been sent to take over a train at Wigan.

The Barracks was also the place where the young cleaners and passed cleaners went to learn about the technical side of being a train driver, we used to go every tuesday for what was called the MIC class, to the layman, mutual instruction classes, if I remember right some of the older drivers would give up their time to try to teach us deadheads what made an engine run, besides sweat and coal, good times.
