JH Gaskell was also the People's Warden of St Mary's Church. He lived at the time at 452 Warrington Road, which was on the corner of St Clement's Street. The photo was presented to the church by his daughter, Dorothy Harrison. It dates from around the start of WW2.

Was he related to Percy Gaskell who became a Shift Foreman at the Diesel Depot - I seem to remember he hailed from Spring View and I think his sister lived in Cemetery Road.

Yes - there were four daughters, Lilian, Edna, Dorothy, and Alice, and John Percival - presumably known as Percy to distinguish him from his father.

Thanks for the Photo. John Henry was my grandfather and Percy my dad.JH retired in the 50's and dad worked at S/Branch from 1941 to about 1972.Had many happy times visiting him at work. Sorry to see it close down after over a 100yrs of service to the railways and local community.
