DMU,s invited many a pretty girl to the cab to impress and got many a date afterwards.Now they were the good old days.Was a Jeans man myself,until BR clamped down on us wearing our itchy uniforms.
re toms comment about if all the lights are lit it is not a Newton Heath set not totaly true some times at the week end you may have had 3 or 4 sets coupled to gether with only 2 engines running but all the lights would still be lit.

I NOW COLIN MITCH WE HAD A FOOTBALL TEAM AT THE BRANCH.WE WENT TO LONDON TO PLAYFOOTBALL AND I GOT SENT OFF.ASK COLIN CAN HE REMAMBER SID END ME AT THE BRANCH I WAS THE SHUNTER AT THE BRANCH.
Colin was my Shunting school instructor in June 1998. Other starters I remember were :-
Vinny Bailey -now driver with f'liner @earles.
Steve ? - went to Crewe diesel as a fitter.
Darren Rook - Carlisle
Ian Beal -Carlisle.
Another lad and two lads who were to be the last to be Trainmen also from Carlisle - one of them used to play the drums IIRC.
Remembered - Steve Murray was the lad who went to Crewe diesel depot as a fitter! I wonder if he is still there?
