Programme for the first Wigan Police Ball held at the Empress Hall in March 1939.
The old Wigan Borough Police ceased to exist in April, 1969, when it was amalgamated {or taken over} by the Lancs, Constabulary. In 1974 it was amalgamated into the Greater Manchester Police. Wigan was never to enjoy the standard of policing that the old Borough Police provided.
