was never filled with steam engines, only opened in 1968 when steam was at an end.
Look at that, 40's and 25's! Great pic.
I remember these being prepared for Royal Duties. However, there was an incident in which they took part late in their preparation. They went out on a test run and it rained while they were still out and on returned to No.1 Road the wheels picked up and they hit a Class 47 at the "buffer" ends, pushing the 47 through the open shed doors almost on to the concrete hardstanding narrowly missing the Shift Foreman's car! Needless to say they had to be lifted on jacks to check that the segmental bearings etc hadn't been damaged.
I think the driver on this occasion was Les Williams.
