Wives and family wait for news at the Maypole Colliery disaster, August 18th, 1908 in which 75 miners lost their lives. The accident was caused by an explosion of fire-damp.
Does anyone know the identity of the gentleman in the photo? My great uncle died in the disaster. His father, my great grandfather, would have featured prominently in photos I suspect, especially as he had worked an earlier shift at the mine. Any info would be appreciated.
