Hi

Could anybody tell me which company operated the Makerfield Mill from the 1940's to 1980? It was possibly a company called Austin & Marr or Carrington Viyella?

Thanks

I worked at the weaving shed on and off from 1965 - 1972, married Linda Melling, moved to Oz in '72.
The two brothers that owned the business were Joe & Austin Maher, Austin would stop and chat but Joe wouldn't give you the time of day, unfortunately. Like Jimmy Wright once said "Joe walks around like he owns the place" typical Jimmy

Lanky, I realise it's been a while since you mentioned your blog, but I tried to find it but it doesn't exist anymore

Brilliant photos, My Grandad Joseph Maher owned the mill, I was just researching the mill and came across these photos.

I have never seen photos inside the mill before. Brilliant to see these old photos.
